If you are talking about connectivity within your local network and PBI Report Server then you do not need any Gateway Installation. You only need to make sure that you are able to connect SQL Server from PBIRS Machine.

Gateway is installed when you are communicating between PBI Service (Cloud) & SQL Server(or any other data source supported by Gateway) On-Prem.

Hello guys!

I work at a company where we are starting to use PBI directly on our SQL database, therefore I want to know if I can connect the gateway directly on the server so all the reports can be scheduled to update on a certain time. And also if the reports that I do o my desktop, that are using the same database on the server, are going to update through the gateway on the server.

you are using some ambiguous terminology. Did you mean to say that you are planning to install an on-premise Power BI Report Server instance?
