Data refresh fails 8 times out of 10

I have a number of simple reports that have been deployed to our report server. Some of them refresh just fine. Others refresh most of the time. But the 3 that I have created most recently, fail to refresh most of the time. Doesn't matter if it's a schedlued refresh or a manual one.

The error message says:

Credentials are required to connect to the SQL source.

But if that were true they would always fail. I have tried the latest update to May 2020 but that didn't help. I try to restart the service but that doesn't help.

I'm open to suggestions.

Also, check for the password expiry or change in password recently ...

Since it does work occasionally and I've only one Report Server and one data source, the error is not valid. There is something else going on that is being interpreted as bad credentials. But the actual stored credentials are fine.

In my case, we had a cluster and DBA used different casing on database names and then it took us some time to get the root cause and fix it.

Next step I suggest to involve network / infrastructure team to see any drop in connections ...

No connection drops. I fail to see how that would be interpreted as bad or missing credentials.

It's driving me crazy! I can do a manual refresh and 7 out of 10 times it fails. But it does work those 3 times and I'm doing nothing but clicking the check box, then clicking on refresh now. Over and over again.

Just wondering if there is anything else anybody can think of? This is driving me totally nuts!!!!!!!

I found the problem with my refreshes. There were 'ghost' servers listed as unjoined. I removed them and now all reports except for the WEB ones are working fine.

Fixed the WEB ones too. Found that in the M code there was a Web.BrowserContents command. I found a post that mentioned removing the Browser part of the command. BINGO!! That got it working again.
