Non-analysis services data source connection to power bi and publish to power bi report server

how to connect non - analysis services data sources (excel, csv etc..) connect to power bi desktop and publish to power bi report server.

when i tried to connect in august 2017 preview version. It is throwing error. How to resolve it.

Did you connect to non - analysis services data sources in desktop successfully, while got error when you attempt to publish to report server? What is the error message? And please make sure you typed into correct Power BI Report Server URL.

I'm wanting to follow up on this. Are you saying that other data sources should work? My reading of the documentation is that only SSAS currently is supported.

Step 2: Select a data source

Currently, the only data source supported with Power BI Report Server is a live connection to a SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)tabular model or multidimensional cube. More data sources will be added in future releases.

Currently, the only data source supported with Power BI Report Server is a live connection to a SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)tabular model or multidimensional cube. More data sources will be added in future releases.

The August Preview supports other sources, I'm currently using it with regular SQL (i.e. not SSAS).

mee too, i have the latest Power BI Desktop (August 2017 Preview).

I was able to connect to excel, but when I attempt to save in Report Server it show this error.

You need to have the August Preview of Power BI Report Server too, not just the Desktop. If you're still running the June GA release of PBI RS then it's not going to work even with the August desktop.
