    <description>&lt;P&gt;Despite being a different error message the resolution to this was the same as that for the post I raised at&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;A href="https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Power-BI-Report-Server-Upgrade-PowerBIReportServer-exe-mscorlib/m-p/1103372/thread-id/14299/highlight/false#M14393" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Power-BI-Report-Server-Upgrade-PowerBIReportServer-exe-mscorlib/m-p/1103372/thread-id/14299/highlight/false#M14393&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I include the details for that below for ease of reference.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Regards&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;........................................&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I fixed this by upgrading the version of .Net Framework on the server.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Retrospectively I have found that requirements for the January 2020 version of Power BI Report Server specify v4.7&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;see &lt;A href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/system-requirements" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/system-requirements&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This was not something mentioned on&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;A href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/upgrade" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/upgrade&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;which I was using to apply the upgrade.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The server had v4.6.x.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I upgraded to v4.7.2.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The installation now completes without error&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;What pointed me to the version of .Net Framework as being the issue was that I tried the install on a server which had an even older version installed (4.5.x from memory).&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Running the install on that produced a message to say the version was too old.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I guess for some reason the install exe could not work out the version installed on the server I was having the problem with.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;The looks like an issue installing/updating the .Net framework on that machine.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Have you tried the steps suggested in this post&lt;/P&gt;
