I am working through the implementation of the Project Online Power BI connection pack and I am struggling with establishing how Project Types are maintained with the Project Online dataset:

As above - PowerBI only sees one Project Type, 'Basic Project' (Note this was previously called Enterprise Project but I renamed it as part of a test to see that changes in Project Online were pulling through to PowerBI)

Following these instructions: https://ppmworks.com/changing-the-enterprise-project-type/ I split my 26 projects into four different types and on checking within Project Online, they appear to have changed (The Choose Enterprise Project Type drop-down has four options to choose from plus the original 'Basic Project') :

However after Refreshing the data into PowerBI, all Projects remain in the 'Basic Project' type.

When I look at the PowerQuery editor, it appears that Project Type is a pass through HEX code from Project Online and confirms that all projects get loaded with same code:

After summarising all this, I realise that this may be more a Project Online question rather than a PowerBI question but would appreciate if anyone can explain how all this works so that I can try and edit the projects to be in specific groups (ideally without removing all the data and starting again!)

many thanks in advance for any help....

Hi @Anonymous,

Power bi data connectors are based on corresponding rest API, so if these change name operations did not affect the root project names, these changes should not update to the power bi side.

I'd like to suggest you add a custom table to the power bi side which maps keys and names for the project objects. Then you can add a custom column to the raw table to reference the new name from the custom table for the following report design usage.

Regards,
