Modification to the schema of a Shared Dataset

Hi all,

I having a shared dataset for multiple departments to connect to from their report. I recently added some new columns into the respective datasource table but by refreshing dataset, the new columns didn't appear.

My question is how could I apply change in the shared dataset without having to remove the dataset and replace a new one.

Related to this question, if I delete the dataset, how could redirect all current active reports to another alternative dataset before hand as removing a dataset means to remove all connected report.

For the first question - you need to ask the downstream consumers of your dataset to refresh their meta data. Then the changes will propagate through.

For the second question - avoid doing that at all cost. There is no way to redirect anything. Everybody involved will have to start over.

So, let say after I upload the Dataset to service and shared to other users, I would like to add a column or measure in that published dataset, would you please suggest me a way to proceed that?

For now, I found no way to update a published dataset but remove the published one and upload with a new version.

1. you add your column or measure to the pbix

2. you update the dataset (publish the pbix into the shared workspace)

3. The other developers go to their pbix files and hit refresh.

4. they update their datasets (publish their pbix to their workspaces

For good measure they also should update their apps.
