Hi All,

I have an SQL datasource which only supports "read only application intents" (see Figure 1). The community solution to this problem is generally to "Enable SQL Server Failover Support" in PowerBI (see Figure 2). This solution works fine in the PowerBI desktop client however when I publish my report and datasource I recieve the following error. How can i enable SQL Server Failover support for a datasource once its published?

Additional References:

Figure 1 - PowerBI Desktop error without SQL Failover Support enabled

Figure 2 - Enabling SQL Server Failover Support in PowerBI Desktop

Hi @Anonymous ,

Make sure that you have got the permissions to add data sources to the Gateway in the Power BI Service.

Please refer to this blog:

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Blog/Refreshing-data-in-Power-BI-from-SQL-Server-Read-only-or/ba-p/568908

BTW, currently for DirectQuery you can only use the Sql.Database .

Best Regards,
Liang
If this post helps, then please consider Accept it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly.
