Hi,

I have some Power BI Dashboards which are connected to a local SQL Server in our organization, which uses Direct Query method. Now, I would like to give access to some users outside our network, they should also see the same refreshed data. I understand I cannot use a Gateway to achieve this, because Gateway supports only On-Premise update of data.

Could anyone suggest how could this be achieved, rather than using Azure? Can I solve thsi with the existing SQL Server itself?

@gheesalias

Are you talking about Power BI Service or Power BI embeded?

If Power BI Service, you can set up the gateway and use direct query, to share with an external user, use publish to web or share an internal orginization account maybe.

If Power BI Embedded, so far it doesn't refresh on any On-Premise sources, only direct query to Azure database and Azure data warehousing is supported.
