Global CO2 Emissions Analysis

Hello Everyone,

This is my first ever post to the Data Stories Gallery here on Power BI Community.

CO2 emissions globally are impacting the world in different ways.

I have tried to create some analysis at Region and Country level to see how the impact has been overtime and whether the countries are taking any measures to control their CO2 emissions or are getting worse.

This analysis looks at some insights around -

trend around CO2 emissions for Regions/Countries overtime
at what intensity the CO2 emissions is increasing
which countries have improved overtime by taking measures on limiting their CO2 emissions
which countries have gone worse overtime
what is the biggest source of CO2 emissions
growth rate of emissions overtime to check if the countries have improved or got worse

The data for this analysis has been taken from the freely available data repository on git-hub:

One, how you create the Growth rate year by year

Second, where you can download a table with all coordinates to create the maps

Hi mariomarin82 ,

Growth Rate is a measure that is caluclated by comparing the current year emissions versus last year emissions.

A measure something like below:

DIVIDE( ([This Year] - [Last Year]), [Last Year], 0 )

It's a standard metric used in different scenarios.

All the data that I have used is on the gitHub repository link that i have shared in the description above. It has got all the demographic information required to create map visuals on the report.

A very cool dashboard Pragati. But I had two questions, how did you show the top 5 countries for each year ? And the second question is how did you create the emissions overtime for each country ? Thank You.

Answers to your questions below:

The top 5 countries for each year are shown by applying the visual level filter on my tooltip based on total CO2 emissions.
Emissions overtime data is available to me, so just created a trend chart using it.

Hello.

How have you performed Data Munging ? "Countries Emissions" table can be created as it contains mostly measures but how have you prepared "Countries" table ?

Will be helpful to perform along with you.

P.S : Above attached file isn't available. Can you please look into this.

Hello. Thank you for replying. Actually attached POWER BI Dashboard was not opening before but, now working absolutely fine.

I am asking can you help us how you performed Data Cleaning on the dataset of this project.

The reason you can't download the pbix file is because I haven't given access to my pbix file to public.

If you have any questions regarding the report, data used underlying it, etc., I am happy to answer them here.
