Redesigned Power BI Report – Australian Domestic Flights On-Time Performance (2014–2024)
Inspired by and with full credit to John Colley

I’m pleased to share a redesigned version of the Power BI report originally created by John Colley, which analyzes the on-time performance of Australian domestic air carriers from 2014 to 2024.

John’s work is a remarkable example of data excellence. His meticulous effort in collecting, cleaning, and modeling official aviation data from the Australian government has resulted in a highly consistent and insightful report. I want to express my sincere appreciation to John for not only sharing this valuable resource but also for kindly allowing me to use it as a foundation for learning and experimentation.

This redesign focuses on UI/UX improvements, aiming to enhance the visual clarity and user experience of the dashboard. I applied principles of minimalism and golden ratio layout to position elements in a way that feels natural and balanced, while keeping the report clean and easy to navigate. Importantly, I made no changes to the underlying data model, preserving the integrity of John’s original work.

There is great potential to expand this report further by incorporating detailed flight schedules, route-level performance, and comparative visualizations between cias and airports. However, this was not the focus of the current redesign, which aimed to maintain simplicity and clarity while enhancing the user interface.

This project was part of my ongoing studies in data visualization and dashboard design. It allowed me to practice layout optimization and storytelling through visuals, while respecting the analytical structure already in place.

All credit for the data engineering and analytical foundation goes to John Colley (johncolley) . My contribution is solely in the visual redesign, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to build upon such a solid and well-crafted report.
