W.E.B. Du Bois Data Challenge 2025 - Week 10

This is my submission for the last week of the 2025 W.E.B. Du Bois Data Challenge. I did a little extra and found some data from the B.L.S. and made a 2023 version in the spirit of 1900 versions. I had to extrapolate a little bit with the data provided, but was able to narrow it down to the "Southern Region" of the United States.

The "Other Expenses and Savings" category was a bit larger with 2023 data, so I added more analysis on categories within that category with a tooltip.

In both the 2023 and 1900 versions I added accessibility features and interactivity. You can hover, tab, and highlight categories of expenditures or classes (found on right side of bar chart).

In 1900 W.E.B. Du Bois hosted "The Exhibit of American Negroes" at the Paris Exhibition of the World's Fair. DuBois and his team created 72 hand-drawn charts. The goal was to demonstrate the progress and commemorate the lives of African Americans. More information can be found in the "About" page. Wow! Nice work with the remake and the modernization. I like the interactivity with the heading block and the stacked bars.
