to Create a Custom Shape Map for Power BI Using QGIS and MapShaper

Prepare the PNG Image:
- Import a PNG image into QGIS as a raster layer (Layer > Add Layer > Add Raster Layer).
- Ensure the image is georeferenced or use a standard projection for visualization.
Draw Shapes in a Shapefile Layer:
- Create a new shapefile layer (Layer > Create Layer > New Shapefile Layer).
- Set the geometry type to Polygon and add an attribute (e.g., Name or Index) to label each part.
- Start editing the shapefile layer and trace over the parts of the PNG image using the Polygon Tool.
- Name each polygon in the attribute table (e.g., head, arm, leg, etc.).
Export the Shapefile:
- Once done, save edits and export the shapefile (Layer > Export > Save Features As).
- Save it as GeoJSON for easier processing in MapShaper.
Convert to TopoJSON Using MapShaper:
- Open MapShaper.
- Upload the GeoJSON file and verify its structure.
- Use the Simplify tool in MapShaper (if needed) to reduce file size without losing important details.
- Export the file as TopoJSON.
Import into Power BI:
- Add a Shape Map Visual to your Power BI report.
- Go to the Format Pane > Shape > Add Map and upload the TopoJSON file.
- Link your data table to the TopoJSON's attribute (e.g., Name or Index) to display data on specific parts.
