Birmingham UK Area and Ward Profiles - Local Government

We have launched our new Area and Ward profiles, an evolution of the previous Ward profiles.

Using Power BI our users can now select multiple wards within Birmingham UK to get a comprehensive overview of their selected geography.

The report itself is powered by open data sources from the Office for National Statistics, Nomis, LG Inform, Fingertips as well as internal data in the form of static spreadsheets and Dataflows on Microsoft Fabric.

It includes a number of cool features including a postcode lookup tool, fully interactive tutorial built right within Power BI, dynamic narrative text which uses DAX measures to pick out the exact elements and an automatic refresh to pull in all the latest unemployment data and update the visuals powered by the Dataflows.

Parameters are used to make the entire model portable to other Local Authorities if we wish. Change a few variables and you can use your own API key, point to a new geography or change the reported period.

Popups are achieved using Bookmarks. A bookmark will indicate what visuals are available and the selection pane allows us to specify the order of those layers. This was used to great effect to create the interactive tutorial page to guide the user on how to get the most from the interactive report.

eyJrIjoiZTkxMjVlMjMtODhhNi00NTM5LTgzOGUtOThkNDEwMTAwY2FmIiwidCI6IjY5OWFjZTY3LWQyZTQtNGJjZC1iMzAzLWQyYmJlMmI5YmJmMSJ9
