Those should be the least of your concerns. The real big issue is data security. Many of the non-certified visuals ingest your data, send it to their company servers for processing and then return the results for rendering. That is obviously a big no-no in a corporate environment. With the certified visuals you get a guarantee from Microsoft that the visual is shenanigan-free.

Hello All,

I have recently moved into the Power BI space from a data warehousing background. My organisation currently implement a policy where they only want employees using visuals that come out of the box with Power BI Desktop. I am trying to understand this line of thought as there are lots of freecertified visuals on the Application store which could be used to enrich our reports.

If there any risk with using additional certified visuals from the Microsoft store? For example:

Are additional visuals on the AppSource created by Microsoft kept to the same standards as the PBI Desktop out of the box visuals? For example the Word Cloud Visual or Gantt Visual?

Can a certified Visual from the AppSource suddenly break between Power BI updates;

Can a certified visual be changed from free to pay by a company at any point?

Any advice anyone has on the above is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex
