Column is not summing at the bottom, but when I turn on sum, all the values change to the total

I want it to show the total values by period with a complete total at the bottom of the table.

Nothing applied (Issue - No Total):

With sum applied to 'Test' (Issue - Total sum same for every period):

Applying Summation to field (Issue - Total sum same for every period):

What I want:

Period Test

1 $5

2 $4

3 $3

4 $2

5 $5

6 $3

7 $1

8 $2

9 $5

10 $3

11 $2

12 $5

13 $6

Total $46

Can you share some more information. Sum with respect to another column? What do you mean "turn on sum"?

Hi Anonymous ,

According to your statement, I think "without sum" should be selecting "Don't summarize" function in value field, and "turn on sum" should be selecting "Sum" function in value field.

As far as I know, Power BI will expand the columns based on relationship and context. So this shuld be caused by your data model. As below, [Column2] will expand by [Column1] from same table and sum function works well.

Please share a sample file with us and this will make it easier for us to find the solution.

Hi Anonymous ,

I have checked your screenshot, and I have some questions about your data model.

I think your issue should be caused by your data model. Just like my sample as above, [Period] and [Test] in the same table or they are in two tables which have been connected by a relationship, SUM function in value field should work well.

So please share a sample file without sensitive data with me or show me more details about your tables and relationship.
