PERFORMANCE ISSUES IN PAGINTED REPORT BUILDER

We have a materialized view in Databricks with about 1.5 million rows and 80+ columns.

On top of that, I’ve created a semantic model in Power BI, and a paginated report that shows essentially all 80+ columns (so it’s returning the full 1.5 million rows).

The report also has around 24 filters/parameters. Because of this combination (large dataset + many columns + many filters), the paginated report is taking a long time to load.

The main dataset is generated using the Query Designer, which produces a large:

`EVALUATE SUMMARIZECOLUMNS(...)`

So far, to improve performance I have:

1. **Created lookup tables for parameter datasets**

Instead of retrieving dropdown values from the large flattened dataset, I created lookup tables and updated parameter datasets to use these tables.

In the Databricks view we have 3 date columns: **D1, D2, D3**.

In the Power BI semantic model I’ve joined these to `dim_date`.

In the paginated report I want to expose 6 date parameters: **StartD1, EndD1, StartD2, EndD2, StartD3, EndD3**.

I have three main questions:

**Q1. How should I handle these 6 date parameters in the main dataset?**

Each date column has its own start/end range; I’d like an approach that is reasonable to maintain.

**Q2. Is the current approach (one big flattened table from the view) the right one?**

We actually started with a star schema in the Power BI semantic model and then moved to a single flattened view, as suggested by a senior data engineer. The issue was that many of the 80+ columns required calculated columns and a lot of transformations, so we pushed all of that logic into the Databricks view instead.

**Q3. How else can I improve performance?**

Right now the paginated report is effectively selecting all rows and almost all columns, with 24 filters on top. I’m looking for design patterns or best practices (e.g. alternative modelling, pre‑aggregation, splitting datasets, etc.) that would make this scenario perform better.

Any guidance or examples would be really appreciated.

Technical Issue - SSRS Power BI PDF export triggers Acrobat 110/117 errors on large tablix reports

SSRS Report / Power BI / PDF Export Issue (Not sure if it’s VS’s report designer or Power BI that’s causing this so I’m putting it here):

Using VS 2026, Microsoft Reporting Services Projects 4.0.0, Power BI Report Server 1.26.9682.1442 (May 2026)

I have this SSRS report (designed with Microsoft Reporting Services Projects 4.0.0) with a tablix that has nested row groups published on a Power BI server. When the report gets over about 2500 records (~220 pages maybe) the report still generates. But when I save as PDF from the report viewer, it does produce a fine PDF but when any changes are saved in it from Adobe Acrobat, we’ll either get error code 110 “Unrecognized object name” or 117 “Non-hex character in a hex string”.

I found it’s not because of specific records because when I made it retrieve 2500 records it worked, when I made it retrieve 4000 records it produced a corrupt PDF, but when I had the report’s SQL query skip the first 2500 records and get only those 1500 records that apparently corrupted the PDF, it produced a noncorrupt PDF. This has been confirmed with other records as well.

I’ve tried every combo of row group, cell, and tablix settings that were half reasonable to try. I’ve added in and stripped out accessibility features. I fixed all warnings given when deploying the report. It’s always the same thing, it’s fine until over about 2500 records.

We need the PDF to be editable after generation; I’ve exhausted every option. If anyone knows how to fix this that’d be great.

We’re seeing an issue with the native Snowflake connection using Key Pair authentication through the On-premises Data Gateway.

The same username and PKCS#8 private key work successfully with the Snowflake ODBC driver. However, when creating a managed connection using Connection Type: Snowflake and Authentication: Key Pair, it fails with:

Unable to update connection credentials. Invalid connection credentials.

Gateway logs only show a generic AccessUnauthorized / credential authentication error, and no authentication attempt reaches Snowflake.

Has anyone experienced this with native Snowflake Key Pair authentication through the On-premises Data Gateway, or is there any additional gateway-side configuration required?

Report Landing Page Setting Stops Working After Publishing to Report Server

Hi everyone,

I have a question about configuring a landing page for a report.

In Power BI Desktop, I set up a specific page as the landing page for my report by right-clicking on the page tab and selecting "Set as landing page". This worked as expected during local testing in Desktop. When I opened the report, it would always start on the page I designated.

However, after publishing this report to our on-premises Power BI Report Server, the landing page setting seems to be ignored:

When opening the report, it always displays the page that was active when the report was last saved, instead of the designated landing page.

When viewed through the web portal on the Report Server, the landing page property I configured in Desktop appears to be completely ignored.

Additional Context:

This issue started occurring after I recently upgraded our Report Server from the September 2025 version to the May 2026 version (version 15.0.1121.120) . The landing page functionality was working correctly on the previous version.

Questions for the community:

Is this a known issue (bug) with the May 2026 release?

Are there any special considerations or steps for configuring a landing page in a Report Server environment that differ from Desktop?

Are there any workarounds or temporary solutions available?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

Input Slicer Filtering Rule Stops Working After Publishing to Report Server

Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding the "Input slicer" visual in Power BI.
I created an input slicer in Power BI Desktop and set the filtering rule to "Does not contain any". It worked perfectly in Desktop during my local tests, filtering data as expected.

However, after publishing this report to our on-premises Power BI Report Server, the input slicer's behavior seems to have changed:

The operator dropdown button is missing: The dropdown button that allows me to switch between operators (e.g., "contains", "does not contain") in Desktop is no longer visible on the server.

Filtering logic appears different: When I enter a value, it seems to apply an exact match logic instead. Only when I type the complete and exact value can it filter the data. The "does not contain any" rule I originally set no longer seems to work.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? What could be the possible causes? Is this due to limited support for the input slicer visual in certain Report Server versions, or could it be that I missed some important step before publishing?
Just to add more details to this issue: I recently upgraded our Power BI Report Server from the September 2025 version to the May 2026 version (version 15.0.1121.120)

I'd really appreciate any insights or suggestions!

Thanks in advance.

Custom Visual Map for Report Server

I have a task to create a custom map visual for Power BI Report Server.
However, I don't currently have access to the Report Server, so I first need to build the report in Power BI Desktop (Version 2.129.2203.0, 32-bit, May 2024) and then publish it to the Report Server.

The problem is that this version of Power BI Desktop does not have the native Shape Map visual. I downloaded an SVG map of Oman with its regions, imported it into Synoptic Panel, and mapped the regions successfully. However, when I go to Get more visuals, I get an error because these custom visuals are either not supported in this version or require a OKVIZ license.

Is there any other way to create a custom map visual that would work with this Power BI Desktop / Report Server version? Ideally, I need the map to look approximately like the one shown in the image. I adviced by Claude that TMap or Icon Map are for free but not with the same fancionality as Synoptic Panel map (picture below).

Any suggestions or alternative approaches would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to achieve the CI/CD using GitHub actions for deployments of lakehouse, semantic model and power bi reports.

My scenario:

1.I have the following workspaces "data-dev", bi-dev", "data-uat", "bi-uat"

2.I deployed lakehouse from workspace "data-dev" to "data-uat" and deployed semantic model and power bi reports from "bi-dev" to "bi-uat"

3. I'm noticing the deployment is succesful, however when I access the power bi reports, the data is not populating. It shows the page but it all has error details instead of real data and values.

Appreciate your help on this issue

Compatibility between Power BI Desktop 2.154.956.0 and Power BI Report Server 1.25.9558.32914

Hi everyone,

Our environment is currently using:

Power BI Desktop: 2.154.956.0 (May 2026)
Power BI Report Server: 1.25.9558.32914 (January 2026)

We suspect the version difference may be causing compatibility issues when publishing reports. Are there any workarounds that allow reports created in Power BI Desktop 2.154.956.0 to work with the January 2026 PBIRS?

Power BI Report Server Scale-Out Issue - Reports Visible from One Node but Empty Folder from Another

Hi Folks

I am experiencing a weird issue on newly built servers where I have migrated the report server databases from SQL 2017 to SQL 2025 and Powerb Report server (May 2026) is installed in a scale out deployment on the same SQL AG nodes.

Environment

Power BI Report Server (Native Mode)

2-node scale-out deployment

ReportServer database hosted on a SQL Server Always On Availability Group

Access through a cluster/network name (virtual hostname)

HTTPS configured using a new SSL certificate

Both PBIRS nodes point to the same ReportServer database

The PBIRS web portal loads successfully on both nodes.
Authentication succeeds. However, it always displays "This folder is empty message" when webportal is accessesed from primary replica node. When requests are served by Node B, All reports and folders are displayed correctly.

The behavior appears to follow the active hosting node rather than the user account.

Has anyone come across this issue or have a clue on what is going on? Thanks in advance.
