Refresh failing for GoogleAnalytics (Quota Error: Rate Limit Exceeded)

When I refresh multiple datasources at once I get this error below, which is fine. Yet, I had one scheduled refresh which failed for no particular reason, because no other job was scheduled at the same time. Sometimes I also get "User Rate Limit Exceeded".

I was looking into Google Analytics API configuration, but could not find any settings where I could increase my quota. I believe it is because it is running on PowerBI credentials.

Error:

I cannot repro this issue but I’ve reported it internally to Power BI Team since I noticed several people have this problem: CRI 32137448

I’ll post here once I get any update about it.

    Best Regards,

    Herbert

Same thing happened yesterday, when I was refreshing only one report. PowerBI account for Google Analytics reached daily limit?

The product team looked at their API usage and they don't see an issue of exceeding limits. They are also not able to repro it.

If you are still facing the issue, could you please provide the exact repro steps? BTW, are you using the content pack or a PBIX file?

    Best Regards,

    Herbert

  • v-haibl-msft, yes same issue appeared on April 3rd, when datasets were updating. I am using 7 datasets, created by PBIX, that load data from Google Analytics. Currently I am short on time, but I will get back to this later with more info.

Under what user account Google Analytics take data from? Is it my user, or a user which is used by Power BI service?

    Best,

    Gabe

  • Hey v-haibl-msft, Vicky_Song,

This issue needs attention, because it is very annoying and happens on every scheduled refresh.

    Scheduled refresh

Last time 5 datasets, that use Google Analytics were scheduled to refresh at these times (the second time is the end date):

    START DATE END DATE
    4/10/2017, 01:03:22 PM ---- 4/10/2017, 1:05:45 PM 4/10/2017, 02:31:07 PM ---- 4/10/2017, 2:39:29 PM 4/10/2017, 11:15:03 AM ---- 4/10/2017, 11:17:44 AM 4/10/2017, 12:17:55 PM ---- 4/10/2017, 12:19:00 PM 4/10/2017, 12:28:18 PM ---- 4/10/2017, 12:36:39 PM (FAILED)

The last one failed, with this error:

    Data source type:
Processing error: GoogleAnalytics: Request failed (403): Quota Error: Rate Limit Exceeded
    Cluster URI: WABI-US-NORTH-CENTRAL-redirect.analysis.windows.net
    Activity ID: dc97dce5-f4a1-4b1f-8411-82d9e441f23a
    Request ID: 9971c3c9-0302-4f81-bfc7-2aaa2f24fe1a
    Time: 2017-04-10 09:36:39Z

    Setup & Reproduction

    1. All 5 datasets/reports use Google Analytics service.
    2. Google Analytics service is authenticated via Google account credentials.
    3. That account has access to other users' Google Analytics data, which is used in the reports (those users shared their data with the account I authenticate into Google Analytics).
    4. To reproduce the error I refresh 5 datasets simultaneously and at least one dataset always fails to refresh (sometimes it is enough to refresh only 2 datasets and one refresh fails).

    Best,

    Gabe
