This has been an on-going issue for more than 5 years now. There are times when the Publishing to Power BI window appears to hang - no one knows if it is actually doing anything. Sometimes it will "publish" for more than 30 minutes, other times really fast.
Before you reply and say you need more information.... this CPU is running with 24 GB of installed RAM and the dataset is less than 200 MB. It works really fast sometimes, other times, like many have posted over the years, we give up and try later.
PLEASE put an estimated time on this + status bar like the rest of Microsoft tools. PLEASE VOTE, thanks in advance!

Sorry for the negative usage experience, as this is not an issue that appears on a specific version and it is difficult for us to troubleshoot the issue. I recommend that you do some further testing to confirm if this is a specific issue caused by a specific device, report or network. You can test publishing other reports or try publishing this file on another device hosted in a different network. In addition, you can also use some trace capture tools to track the publishing operation to check if any ports or requests are blocked. If this is difficult, you can open a ticket to find an engineer to help specifically with your problem.
As for the optimization of the features you mentioned，you may vote the idea and comment there to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

I know this thread is old. but still no time to publish timer. And I am having the same issue with one of my reports. Its not my machine, my connection, or etc... I know this because I opened a new PBI window, opened a different file, and published that one in seconds to the same workspace. The only thing that changed in the first file were some cosmetic things. No reason for it to hang now, over 40 minutes. I have cancelled and retried and the same thing happens.
While publishing. CPU at 12% mem at 42%, Disk at 1% and Network at 0-1 % (and thats with a live monitoring tool running in parrallel).
At first the little dotted circles spins at a normal speed and then it just crawls almost to a stop.
I had this happen to me with other fiels too. Just last week I had the issue with the one that I just mentioned above that worked. It hung. After a half a day I gave up. The next mornign I tried again, and no issues.

For some reason I cant vote on this, but I faced the same problem today, it hung for 20 minutes until I cancelled and reopened the file and then successfully published after just a couple minutes. I've faced this problem many times in the past too...
