Error: There is an error in XML document (1, 1).

I'm using Power BI Desktop on a daily basis because I have four dashboards that I update everyday (new data daily).

Last Monday, April 15, I was able to access my files in the morning. Come afternoon when I was about to update another dashboard, I suddenly got this error:

There is an error in XML document (1, 1).

When I tried opening all my Power BI files, and even creating a new one, I still get the same error.

I searched and most suggested to just reinstall Power BI, or delete the App Cache. I did both, but the error still persists.

The weird thing now is Power BI is working fine (with my files) using a different user in my laptop:
i.e. I was using my own user account (admin access) and my Power BI app is having an error, but when I logged on to a different user in the same laptop, Power BI is working well.

How can I fix this issue? It's quite a hassle now logging in and out of my laptop user account just to use Power BI.

    Hi iannedrs ,

     

    Did you try delete the AppData Folder for Power BI? You may navigate to the directory on your computer C:\Users\{your actual username}\AppData\Local and delete the AppData folder for Power BI (either 64-Bit or 32-Bit, depending on your installation),then relaunch Power BI Desktop and right-click on the Power BI desktop icon > choose "Run as Administrator".

    Hi Anonymous 

     

    Thanks for the guide, however, it didn't work. I am able to open a new file when I run it as administrator after deleting the AppData folder. But once I choose to Open an existing file through the newly opened app using "Run as Administrator", I still get the same error. 

    I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the offline files since I can open them using a different laptop user account.
