What if parameter for continuous/range data

Currently, the New Parameter function is severely limited as it creates a table with every possible parameter value. In cases where the parameter value could be, say, any dollar amount between -$100 billion and $100 billion this is clearly not feasible. It also doesn't allow for string input. Parameter functionality is currently far superior in Tableau.
