Use variable library to parameterize connections in data pipeline using dynamic content

When will it be possible to create variables in the Variable Library and use them in a Data pipeline to create dynamic connections based on the current values for the active workspace?

For a good CI/CD this is essential.

At this time I can 'Use dynamic content' in a copy activity, but have no idea what to put in there; connection string / gateway connection id??
