Use Excel sheet as a Report Surface

Build and format a report on a regular Excel sheet and then upload it to the Power BI site retaining all the functionality.

  • Agree, I have worksheets containing cube formulas from PowerPivot models because I like to use the data bar conditional formatting. I want to see these other worksheets alongside the Power view sheets like you can in the current Power BI sites.
  • Current Power BI sites in Office 365 allow you to publish all of an Excel workbook. This is useful if you are using Cube Formulas to build very customised dashboards or if taking advantage of conditional formatting with Data bars for example. It would be useful if the new Power BI could see all sheets in a workbook in the same way. If the current Power BI sites are to be phased out, how will this be handled? The current approach with Powerpivot workbooks utilising all functionality and natural language queries is very powerful. Will this just fall back to sharepoint online and Excel web services?
  • Most financial people want to see numbers first, and nice charts only as an additional option. So it is very important to show Excel output in Power BI. Currently, when uploading an Excel workbook with both regular Excel and Power View visualizations, only the Power View part is visible. This should change.
