Unselect all items in filter

I would like the functionality of selecting none of the items in a filter (e.g. when these are additional options). In particular my users find it counterintuitive that when all items are selected no tick marks appear next to the items, seemingly you have selected none. It should work more like in Excel table filters, when all items are selected then tick marks appear next to all items.
