Persistent Sorting by Measure in Matrix Visual with Field Parameters
Description:
In Power BI, when using a Matrix visual with Field Parameters to dynamically switch between measures, it is currently not possible to persistently sort the rows by a specific measure (e.g., Revenue).
For example, if the matrix rows contain non-unique values like Project Name, and the values are dynamically selected via Field Parameters, the sorting always changes based on the selected measure. There is no built-in way to lock the sorting to a specific measure (e.g., Revenue), regardless of the selected parameter.
Attempts to work around this using calculated columns, helper tables, or LOOKUPVALUE often result in circular dependencies or errors due to non-unique keys.
Requested Feature:
Add support for persistent sorting in Matrix visuals based on a fixed measure, even when Field Parameters are used to switch displayed values. Ideally, allow sorting by a measure (not just a column), and allow users to define a default sort logic that remains active regardless of the selected parameter.
Why it matters:
This feature would greatly improve usability in performance dashboards and financial reports, where consistent ranking (e.g., by Revenue) is critical for interpretation, even when switching between KPIs.
