multidimensional with superdax

"Super DAX” helps reduce the chattiness between DAX clients and Analysis Services Tabular. Certain Power BI visuals uses “Super DAX” query. Please extend support of SuperDAX in Power BI with Analysis Service Multidimensional for better performance.

  • '+1 for this SuperDax MD. This should help Power BI visual reports causing the analysis service MD instance to go out of memory sometimes.
  • We purchased two new servers (TEST and PROD) and put 2017 SSAS standard on them. We are currently on 2012 SSAS enterprise with MDX cubes. Only during testing (just prior to migrating) did we discover this issue. We are not going to migrate our MDX cubes now. Power BI support has indicated the issue will only get worse if Power BI does not upgrade to Super DAX. There are certain visuals that will not even render (Table with Grand Totals). Our options provided by PBI are: Stay were we are (or move as high as 2014 BI edition), turn off the Grand Totals on the visuals or rewrite the cubes in tabular. Even moving to Enterprise on 2016 or higher will not help. We were planning on testing Tabular out but we were not planning on it as the only option. We are in the process of testing whether the problem exists in Tabular as well before we make some choices. PBI support has indicated it does not exist in Tabular. They have indicate they have other customers that have this same issue and they realize this is costing the customer money as well. Servers are not cheap and when you make the assumption it will work, it is frustrating when it will not. Feel free to contact me if you have some questions on this. We have tested all the SSAS version options with our MDX models.
