It is fairly easy to use PowerBI with elasticsearch already through web-call, if you know the elastic fairly complicated (for people used to SQL) syntax. A built in "connector" would do wonders in letting people not super dedicated to learning elastic syntax use data from it. We're more or less moved away from traditional databases for BI-data storage and use almost exlusively elasticsearch currently.
