Dynamic Column Headers/Measure Names

It would be very nice to be able to have an expression value in the Rename for this Visual menu item so that measure names in a visual could be dynamic. This way, you can dynamically put measures in a visual using parameter harvesting and have a column header that matches what the user has selected.

  • Please add the ability to dynamically set column headers in columns and matrix visuals. For example being able to change the header based on what the user has selected in a slicer. Or, the ability to show/hide columns based on a slicer. Either of these will allow for more user targeted reports.

Just got the same customer request today, i.e. to show different column headers based on a filter (dropdown filter) settings.

I tried to overcome using field parameters but they I will have all field parameter columns shown when no selection is done

I also tried using bookmarks and show different visuals but that didn't work either since the filter needs to be a dropdown filter

This should be quite a simple change I would say. No need to advertise it using the function (fx) icon either, a right click on the measure will also work

  • Most of customer need dynamic header so most of the time we have to place shapes and then do Fx but when user wants to export data it will show blank as header

  • Qlik Sense has it. I don't understand why PowerBI doesn't. It's critical in order to make understandable the name of the measure and give the PowerBI app a better look&feel. Come on, you've already late!

  • Currently, the only way to do it is through a Field Parameter, although this means having to duplicate the field and rename it each time, which is really bad in terms of optimization.
