Our company wanted to migrate their data from an SQL Server database to Fabric.
The database we wanted to migrate has a specific collation, in particular it is case sensitive.
It would be nice if we could alter the collation of SQL Databases to make migration easier.

This capability will be available for use by end of January 2026
- Oviwan I think it already works, but haven't seen any news on it yet. I tried to migrate one of our SQL databases to Fabric and I did not encounter the same problem I had back in November, the collation did not cause any problems anymore.
Jappieduck When we create a new SQL Database, it still always has the collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, verified using SELECT DATABASEPROPERTYEX(DB_NAME(), 'Collation'); — and I have not found any way to change it.

sukkaur I cannot find documentation on how to change collation post creation. I get the error COLLATE is not supported by ALTER DATABASE if I try to change in T-SQL. How do we change the collation of existing database?

- Oviwan "It would be nice if we could alter the collation of SQL Databases to make migration easier." This Idea specifically requests the ability to ALTER database collation. This idea is not complete.
