Often we need to expand on an idea from one report further and copy and paste visuals/pages from one PBIX to another. This would be a huge productivity and quality benefit.

Advocate IReally frustrating not to be able to do this - especially when two different files are using the same data source. To get the same or similar view into a different PBIX file, you have to recreate the entire thing from scratch.
