Power BI report server upgrade breaks Power BI Reports

We upgraded our Power BI Report Server from the October release to the new March 2018 release, now all power BI reports fail with the error "Query is too complex", even when the source is a tabular model.

This failure happens on the new server and on the Power BI desktop, any help much appreciated
