POWER BI REPORT SERVER LICENSING AND INSTALLATION
Hi.
We want to install Power BI Report Server in our company. We have one SQL Server Enterprise Edition (8 cores) with Software Assurance; therefore we meet the requirements needed.
My question is: do we need to install Power BI Report Server in the same server where we have our SQL Server Enterprise Edition? Or, are we allowed to use the key in a different server? If this is possible, does the "other" server has to have the same number of cores or it does not matter?
Thanks!

Yes you do. The cores where Power BI runs have to be covered by the SQL Enterprise License. Interestingly the backend database can be hosted on a different server that can be running a different edition (like SQL Standard). But the actual Power BI Report Server itself has to be on the enterprise licensed cores.

Hi.
We have more SQL servers Enterprise at our company. But only one with SA. Do we need to use for installation of Power BI server this one with SA?
Thank you for the answer.
