PBIRS "Developer" Edition

Hi all,

wondering what the licensetype "Developer" contains which is shown when you install the Report Server.

Can anybody say what Developer is used for? I can't find a explanation in the www.

    Hi Philipp_A ,

Both the evaluation and development versions offer the same technical features.
The difference is that the evaluation will expire after 180 days. Developers cannot use it for commercial purposes. Commercial purpose means production environment. This means using PBIRS to provide reports and/or data for production data to end users.
The Developer Edition can be used to develop reports in a development environment and these reports can be moved to a production environment that has the appropriate production environment license.

      Hello Anonymous ,

      thank you for your response!

      That makes it definitely clearer.

Where does a UAT environment stand in this context?

For example users will test their requested reports on this system. Is this already a 'production use'? Does this depend on the data used for testing? So using production data for testing is 'production use', using test data does not intend 'production use'?

Can't find an answer to this question in the linked thread.

      Cheers,

      Philipp

        Hi Philipp_A ,

Not really familiar with UAT, but from what I've found on the internet about its description:

“User acceptance testing (UAT) environments—also called staging environments—allow the application's main users to test new features before they are pushed into the production environment.”

If you are only using the evaluation edition for testing purposes, then you can use the evaluation edition for the duration of its validity.
If you eventually want to move to a production environment, it is recommended that you can use the developer edition.
