Pass Main Report Parameters to Nested Sub-Report

Hi,

I am using PowerBI Report Buidler to build a paginated report. Is there a way to pass main report parameters to a sub-report that is nested within another sub-report? Trying to do this but it is causing errors in the first sub-report.

Thanks

    Hi JK800 ,

Let’s break down the steps to achieve this:

    1. Create the Reports:

      • First, create the main report and the subreport(s) you want to nest within it.
      • Save both reports to the same Power BI workspace.
    2. Design the Parent Report:

      • Open the main report in Power BI Report Builder.
      • In the Design view, right-click the subreport placeholder where you want to embed the subreport.
      • Click Subreport Properties.
    3. Specify Parameters for the Subreport:

      • In the Subreport Properties dialog box, navigate to the Parameters section.
      • Click Add to create a new parameter row in the grid.
      • In the Name text box, type the name of a parameter in the subreport or choose it from the list box.
      • Repeat this step for any other parameters you want to pass.
    4. Link Parameters:

      • Now, go to the Subreport Links window.
      • Search for your parameters on the left side and move them to the right side.
      • Ensure that the option for Select data in subreport based on field is unchecked for these parameters.
      • Click OK to save the changes.
    5. Open the Subreport:

      • Finally, open the subreport itself and ensure that it handles the parameters correctly.

Below is the official link will help you:
