Paginated Report in Fabric

Hi,

I'd like to know if Fabric supports the Power BI Paginated Reports and what it is possible to do and what it isn't possible to do.

Thanks

  • Hey pmscorca ,

Yes, Microsoft Fabric supports the use of Power BI Paginated Reports. These types of reports are designed for scenarios where you need highly formatted, precise, and print-ready layouts, such as for invoices, detailed financial reports, or other structured documents. With Power BI Paginated Reports in Fabric, you can:

    • Create and publish reports: You can design your reports using Power BI Report Builder or SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), and then publish them within Microsoft Fabric.

    • Connect to various data sources: You can leverage data from your Lakehouse, Warehouse, or other external data sources in your reports.

    • Achieve detailed formatting: These reports allow for intricate layouts, grouping, and pagination to ensure they meet your reporting needs.

There are some things to consider:

    1. Limited interactivity: Paginated reports focus on static, printable formats, so they do not provide interactive elements like drill-downs or hover effects, which are common in standard Power BI reports.

    2. No real-time updates: Unlike dashboards, these reports are not designed for real-time interactivity and will need to be refreshed according to a set schedule.

    3. More complex design: The design process for paginated reports can be more involved, requiring tools such as Power BI Report Builder, and it lacks some of the simplicity and flexibility seen in standard reports.

Hi Nasif_Azam , thanks for your useful reply.

Are there any limitations respect to the old Paginated Reports, before Fabric?

      Your suggested links don't function.

      Thanks

        Hey pmscorca ,

Apologies for late reply and broken links.

Comparison of Paginated Reports in Microsoft Fabric versus the older Power BI service:

        1. Deployment & Management: Fabric manages reports within its ecosystem, which may differ in permissions and access compared to the old Power BI service.

        2. Data Source Connectivity: Fabric supports Lakehouses and Warehouses, but integration with some external data sources may differ from the legacy Power BI service.

        3. Report Refresh & Scheduling: While refresh scheduling is still supported in Fabric, the process may differ slightly due to the new system design.

        4. Advanced Functionalities: Some advanced features from the old service, like custom visuals or Power BI Embedded, may not be fully available in Fabric yet.
