On-Premises update to Gen2

So the whole Gen1 vs Gen2 architecture only relates to workspaces hosted on the cloud.
Gen2 gets its extra performance by scaling out certain opertions to other nodes in the cloud. But if you are ONLY using on-prem infrastucture everything is running on the machine where you installed Report Server and there are no other cloud nodes to scale out to.

does it mean that if nothing is done , Microsoft will update automatically To Gen2 without notification ?

Super UserIf you have a Premium capacity that requires migrating, you'll receive an email notification 60 days before the migration is scheduled to start
