Custom Visual Map for Report Server

I have a task to create a custom map visual for Power BI Report Server.
However, I don't currently have access to the Report Server, so I first need to build the report in Power BI Desktop (Version 2.129.2203.0, 32-bit, May 2024) and then publish it to the Report Server.

The problem is that this version of Power BI Desktop does not have the native Shape Map visual. I downloaded an SVG map of Oman with its regions, imported it into Synoptic Panel, and mapped the regions successfully. However, when I go to Get more visuals, I get an error because these custom visuals are either not supported in this version or require a OKVIZ license.

Is there any other way to create a custom map visual that would work with this Power BI Desktop / Report Server version? Ideally, I need the map to look approximately like the one shown in the image. I adviced by Claude that TMap or Icon Map are for free but not with the same fancionality as Synoptic Panel map (picture below).

Any suggestions or alternative approaches would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi NN_Muskat123,

You can try TMap visual. What you need to do is just uploading a Shape or GeoJSON file for Oman boundaries in the section "Linked Polygon Layer" of the format pane, linked it to your data model via a key.  Please see details:

    https://www.mylocs.ca/tutorials.html#upload-shape-file.

It works on Power BI report server.
