ALM with reverse direction doesn't work
There are only a limited number of write operations that are supported for external tools. See https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/transform-model/desktop-external-tools#supported-write-operations and it looks like you are trying to make unsupported changes.
Unfortunately there are some changes like enabling incremental refresh which mean that you cannot download changes from the service to desktop. Hopefully this will be fixed over time, but at the moment there is no good work around to get the model back into desktop. You could maybe download the model as a .bim file using Tabular Editor, but then you would have to do future updates and changes with Tabular Editor.
