XMLA Read/Write - No datasource connection for upgraded SSAS tabular model
- 5 years ago
Hi Anonymous
As far as I know there is a big difference from SSAS 2016 to SSAS 2019 due to the meta data changes.
What I have done in the past is to create a new model and then copy and paste the queries, etc and script out as much as I can.
Thanks for the message GilbertQ It looks like we will be recreating the model on the required compatibility. One further issue we have discovered is the lack of Object level security even after coming out of preview which fixed the deployment of roles from Visual Studio. Object level security is a must as we use it extensively. This link from Dec 2019 https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-premium-and-azure-analysis-services/ does say 'No Yet'. I would have thought this was priority for most organisations. This additional feature would make a XMLA R/W a really good option.
Hi Anonymous
OLS is not currently avaiable in Power BI Premuim hopefully it will be there soon!

Looks like OLS is here for XMLA R/W models on Power BI Premium 😀 https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/object-level-security-ols-now-available-for-public-preview-in-power-bi-premium/
