If uploading the excel files in the workbook section,
When the excel is on one drive, It will keep the connection to excel

Thank you . i comment in the name of joko2008.
but this will not work for regular users in our organization as it points to another network (we have to use the excels in a RDP session which is not for end users), and the trick we want is to use powerbi which has been given access to that other network. So we do not need to confont end-users with RDP sessions, but let them use the powerbi webbrowser. But this is only possible if the excel-sheets are capable of using the defined gateways.
