Using a semantic model
I am creating my own dashboard where i reference not only my data, but data i am getting from a different semantic model. When I go to publish my dashboard, i am getting an error message on the chart...

sorry for the delay in response!!
This looks like a composite model / DirectQuery connection to another semantic model, rather than a Build-permission issue. Since the visuals work in Desktop but fail after publishing with OnPremiseServiceException, check the following as suggested above :
- Make sure the tenant setting Allow DirectQuery connections to Power BI semantic models is enabled.
- In the published semantic model, check Settings -> Gateway and cloud connections / Data source credentials and ensure all connections are configured.
- If the source semantic model ultimately uses an on-premises data source, verify that the On-premises Data Gateway is online and correctly mapped.
- Also confirm both models are in the same Power BI tenant.
Microsoft specifically notes that composite models based on another semantic model require all credentials to be set in the Power BI Service
