Scorecard Semantic Model Errors on Refresh - help needed!!
Hi, I just wanted to give an update - I did escalate the ticket but didn't get any information. However, I have managed to fix it. Whatever error happened to the scorecard, when i started removing goals and got it to under 1000 goals, it started to work. So I have gone through and copied the scorecard multiple times with all check-in history, and created groups of goals that will make sense - so instead of one scorecard with 1229 goals, I have now have 5 scorecards all with some goals.
I think the main takeaway for this is to make sure you don't go over 1000 goals. I know MS haven't actually specified any limit on the number of goals, but it seems to make a difference. The refresh is now working absolutely fine for the 5 scorecards.

So after reopening the ticket and having many conversations, the upshot is that they don't really know and the scorecard is too big to 'troubleshoot properly' (their words). They tried telling me that the goal limit for a scorecard is 1000, but I have a second scorecard with 1190 goals in it and that hasn't broken. I'm not 100% sure what has happened, but the big one with 1240 goals in it hasnt started working again.
That said, I used their new feature to 'copy scorecard' with history, multiple times, and then reduced the scorecards down to logical groupings - i.e. if I had groups A, B, and C within the big scorecard, i've grouped A and B into a new scorecard, and C has gone into a second scorecard - this has reduced the number of goals per scorecard and the refresh is now working again. I also found that removing any special characters such as quotes, / and hyphens has improved the stability of the refresh. it does mean I need to manage more scorecards, but at least they aren't breaking and i can get to the data now.
MS weren't able to explain why my scorecard with 1190 goals is still functioning, though they have stated they think the limit is 1000 and will update the documentation accordingly. I am planning on splitting out the other big one in the same way I've done the broken one, just to minimise the chance it may break in future.
Hope this helps someone else!!

So, as I said in my original post, I have already opened a ticket with Microsoft. After 3 weeks, their official statement was "the scorecard capability isn't supported in power query online. Sometimes they break and we don't know why. All you can do is rebuild it as a new scorecard which will mean you'll lose all the historical data".
So I came here because after an awful response from MS yesterday, I was hoping someone else had come across this problem and somehow found a fix.

I am very sorry to know that was the answer, I was suggesting to reopen the ticket and see if you get better support. I hope someone else can help here but honestly I doubt that anyone can do more than Microsft technicians.

Hi zantarel,
As FBergamaschi suggested to raise support ticket again and see if you get better support from another team, kindly go through it and see if you get different response for your issue from the support team.
Best Regards,
Hammad.
