Refresh error provides confusing diagnostic - How to update credentials

How do I recover from this error. The suggestion is to go to the dataset security settings. This is where I am viewing the message, i.e. the Dataset' Settings page. I see no option to correct credentials. I cannot re-enable refresh schedule because that option is grayed-out and apparently locked. I have never seen this in five years on the platform.

  • Hey tommy_g ,

can you post a screenshot from the settings page?

If you need any help please let me know.
If I answered your question I would be happy if you could mark my post as a solution ✔️ and give it a thumbs up 👍

    Best regards

I did mention "confusing" in my title. The place where the original screen-shot was taken from is the "Dataset Settings page". On the service. The message would be better if it mentioned something like "go to the OTHER Dataset Settings page", the one in the PBIX file. Checking those settings now.

  • I eventually found bad credentials for an Azure SQL DB connection. This was in the PBIX Dataset Settings.

Nothing happened after re-publishing the PBIX. No option to correct online and no option to bypass block on Scheduled Refresh.

Several hours later, I tried again. Same error but there was the old option I am very familiar with, namely "Enter correct credentials". I did and everything is now okay. I wish the error message had been more specific. Lesson learned.
