First remark is that you will need a value_if_true and a value_if_false in your IF Function. 

The IF Function works as follows:

 

var <var1> =  IF(<conditions>; <return if true>; <return if false>)

Here is a working example: 

var length = LEN([variable])
var result = IF(length>8; RIGHT([variable];8);"null")
