One a week would be fine, but more frequent would be even better.

Most Valuable ProfessionalIf live means once a week or once a day, you can schedule refresh on it. Is it SharePoint Online (having .sharepoint.com in the address) or on-premise? If it's online, you don't need a gateway. I did a tutorial here for SPO if that helps.

Above tutorial is good for scheduling your excel refresh once a week.
If you connect to Sales Force through direct query, you may need to create a composite model (as mentioned ealier by SaiTejaTalasila ),as the Excel file data will use Import mode.
