parameters for paginated reports in the Power BI service is a Preview feature.
Parameters pane The report viewer toolbar displays a prompt such as "Required" or a default value for each parameter.

The link provided shows the old way the parameters were shown in the service. These days the visualization of the parameter panel was changed and the new look is confusing for the users (at least based on my experience).
I'll mark your answer as a solution and hope the product team to make further improvements to the parameters panel
Kudo CollectorUpdate - since yesterday the service is changed and when there is a required parameter without default value, the parameter canvas is displayed (not a blank report page as before).
