Org app in Powerpoint

Hi,

I've been busy moving reports from powerbi to fabric to get quicker updates. In the meanwhile, I also switching from workspace apps to org apps.

But now a colleague mentioned that he can't seem to import the reports from the org app in Powerpoint. What he does is the following:

  • Open powerpoint (logged in powerpoint with the same user as in powerbi)
  • Go to Insert and click on the Power BI add-on button
  • In PowerBI he copies the url from the report page he needs (browser url)
  • Paste it in the url field in Powerpoint.

I tried it myself with my admin account and same error occurs. I checked the error and it says:
HttpRequestWorker.requestInternal error PBI.Storytelling.HttpGetReportInMyWorkspace 404.
When I use the debugger it gives this error:
{
"error": {
"code": "PowerBIEntityNotFound",
"pbi.error": {
"code": "PowerBIEntityNotFound",
"parameters": {},
"details": [],
"exceptionCulprit": 1
}
}
}

I tried an older org app that I didn't convert yet to the new model with the audiences and also gives the same error. When using a workspace app or a report directly, it works. I use the same account in Powerpoint and PowerBI.

I tried the browser url while accessing the org app through the workspace and through the Apps navigation. I also tried the link you get through the share button (Link to this app page). But all of it fails. Exporting the report to powerpoint works.

Has anyone been able to get the import button in Powerpoint to work with org apps?

  • I had a call with Microsoft and after creating a new workspace with a trial capacity, it was working in that workspace with that capacity. So it seems there is a capacity limit on it. But now idea what is the limit. We are due to upgrading our capacity, so I'll wait until then to see if it solved.

    Hi Jessy_Dโ€‹,

    We can add a report page of the Org App to the PowerPoint - Copy the "link to this app page" as show below and add it in the PowerPoint.

    Refer to below Microsoft Link for more details - Add a Live Power BI Report Page to PowerPoint - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

        You can try creating a sample Org app in new Workspace / My Workspace. Create a sample dataset with a report and add this report to the new Org app. Now, perform the same steps I have mentioned in the above thread to add to PPT.
        If this works, then check if you have required access to both report and dataset in the Workspace which you are actually trying to embed the Org App Report to PPT.

  • Hi  ShivekMaharajโ€‹,

    I hadn't tried the online version yet of Powerpoint, but there I have the same error. I tried all the different ways of the urls. Everything works in the online version except the org app.

    I've opened a support case to figure it out and keep you posted.

    Hi Jessy_Dโ€‹,

    Rupa01's steps match the current documentation, but the important part here is that you have already tried both of the URL methods Microsoft documents for org apps.

    Microsoft added org app report support to the Power BI PowerPoint add-in in June 2026. For an org app report, the supported methods are specifically:

    • copy the URL while the report is open inside the org app, or
    • use Share > Link to this app page

    and paste that into the add-in.

    Since both of those give you the same PowerBIEntityNotFound 404, while the underlying report and workspace-app version work with the same account, I wouldn't treat this as an unsupported org app scenario.

    The 404 indicates that the add-in isn't resolving the report entity successfully. Given that the report itself clearly exists, my suspicion would be around how the org app URL is being resolved by the add-in rather than the report itself, although I don't think there is enough public documentation to say exactly where that is failing.

    One additional test I would make is to paste the exact same Link to this app page URL into the Power BI add-in in PowerPoint for the web. If Desktop and web both return the same 404, I would raise this with Microsoft Support and include the org app URL, underlying report ID, timestamp and the full error payload.

    The current PowerPoint integration documentation explicitly supports org app report pages, so if both documented URL methods fail consistently, I think it is reasonable to investigate this as a product/service issue rather than keep changing the app configuration.
