Gateway Time Out Errors - Sporadically

Hi all

I am trying to diagnose an issue regarding the On Premise Data Gateway for PowerBi. We are facing semi regular issues with time out errors.

We face these errors on average around 8 times per day, for differing users.

Please see below an example of this.

I have looked within the Gateway logs, and see plenty of 'mashup' related errors there too.

Any direction given to resolving this issue, or at least understanding where it resides would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

  • You have to make absolutely 100% sure that all your gateway cluster VMs are configured exactly the same for all drivers, ODBC settings, credentials and (ideally) gateway versions.

The sporadic nature of the issue is likely caused by the load balancer randomly choosing a cluster member for a mashup and that one of them is a bad apple.

Thanks for the reply. I will look into this with the relevant infrastructure teams. I am not sure the gateway is indeed part of a cluster, however, I will get this verified and come back asap.

v-prasare Thanks for the message, I will check what has been advised asap

I am just getting additional privileges on the gateway service to verify the required settings. Hopefully, I will have those soon and will update here asap

      Hello!

Apologies for the delay, i have recently got the access needed and so will be able to provide further info on this situation soon.

      Thanks

  • I have finally got access to the necessary areas of the system to continue troubleshooting this issue.

I have checked within Settings > Manage connections and gateways > On-premise data gateways. Only one entry is listed on this page, so we don't have a cluster present, I suppose?

Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

click on the "i"  icon to see the details for that gateway.

When I do that, the little pop-out window that appears shows just the one entry listed:

So, I assume that means it's not part of a cluster, as just one device is listed?

I have looked into some of the general configurations now regarding the environment. I notice the current timeout setting, within the various config files (inside the installation dir) is set to 50 seconds. Would it be recommended to increase this?

Again, thanks so much so far for the advice
