Floating Text Editing Toolbar/dialog box

I am trying to edit a Text Box in my report but the pop up Text editor toolbar covers the text I am trying to edit. I cannot see the text I am trying to edit. In Desktop it sits underneath the text.

This is not happening in Desktop, only in Service. I haven't done anything to the report since I last edited it.
Any ideas why this is happening all of the sudden?

 Is it a bug?

  • Hi,

This looks like a possible Power BI Service UI issue, especially since the text box works fine in Desktop and you haven't changed the report.

You can try refreshing the browser, zooming out, or opening the report in an InPrivate/incognito window to check whether the toolbar position changes. If the issue persists, it may be a bug in the Service's text editor rather than an issue with your report.

You can also report it on the Microsoft Fabric Community Issues page if it continues. I couldn't confirm a current official bug report for this exact issue, so I wouldn't say for sure that it's a confirmed bug.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks!

Can you give me the link to the Community Issues page please? I can't find it.

    Hi ArchStanton,

Since you have now confirmed this is listed as an active known issue, I would treat it as a Power BI Service UI bug rather than anything in the report itself.

Microsoft's current Power BI Service editing guidance confirms that report editing in the browser uses the Service-side editing experience, which is separate from Desktop. That fits with your observation that the same text box behaves correctly in Desktop but not in the Service.

For now, the safest workaround is to edit those text boxes in Power BI Desktop and republish rather than trying to work around the floating toolbar in the browser.

If you want to track or report the issue, Microsoft's Power BI known issues page is the place I would monitor. Since the issue is already active, I would avoid spending time changing browser zoom, report layout, or text-box formatting unless you need a temporary workaround.

    So the short version is:

    • Desktop editing = currently unaffected
    • Service editing = affected by the known toolbar overlap issue
    • Best workaround = edit in Desktop until Microsoft ships the fix
