Hi StefcoAE,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.
It appears you're facing a quota-related issue with your BigQuery connection in Power BI. Despite having an unlimited quota, Google Cloud may still impose certain limits.Thank you, Akash_Varuna for sharing your insights.

Hi StefcoAE
The error message indicates that your Power BI scheduled refresh is failing due to a quota exceeded issue in BigQuery, specifically related to free query bytes scanned. Even though you have an unlimited quota, Google Cloud imposes certain limits on query usage depending on your billing settings and project configuration. The issue may arise due to one of the following reasons:
-
Billing Project Settings: If your Power BI connection is using a Google Cloud project that does not have billing enabled, it might be defaulting to the free tier, which has limits on the amount of data scanned per month.
-
BigQuery API Limits: There are API quotas that limit the number of queries per minute/hour, even if you have a paid plan. If your dataset is large and multiple refreshes are happening within a short timeframe, you might be hitting these limits.
-
Permissions and Service Account Issues: If your Power BI service account does not have the necessary permissions to bypass quota restrictions, it may still encounter these errors despite an unlimited quota.
-
Concurrency Issues: If multiple queries are being executed at the same time, BigQuery might restrict usage under certain policies, causing an operation timeout.
-
Power BI Query Optimizations: If your Power BI queries are inefficient (e.g., scanning large tables instead of using partitioning or filtering), they may consume excessive resources, triggering quota limits.
Possible Fixes:
-
Check Your Billing Account: Go to the Google Cloud Console → Billing and ensure the correct project has billing enabled.
-
Verify Query Optimization: Use partitioning and clustering in BigQuery to reduce scanned data size.
-
Increase API Quotas: Navigate to Google Cloud Console → IAM & Admin → Quotas, search for BigQuery quotas, and request an increase.
-
Check Service Account Permissions: Ensure that the Power BI service account has the required permissions.
-
Test Refresh with Smaller Datasets: Try reducing the scope of the query in Power BI and check if a smaller dataset refreshes successfully.
If the issue persists despite these fixes, you may need to contact Google Cloud Support to check if there are specific restrictions on your account.

Hi StefcoAE Since you have unlimited quata in big query try to increase the query timeout in power bi and if in DirectQuery you could switch to impoert mode and schedule some refreshes to avoid the timeout i guess
