Export-to-data disabled for a R Script or Python Visual

I have recently detected that the Export Data functionality is no longer working when using R Script or Python Visual.

This is not connected to the report or data source privacy or configuration.

If we change the visual type by another Microsoft default ones, the Export Data is enabled and works without problems.

The reason we are using R Script or Python Visuals is because the chart or graphic we need can not be created by using standard Visuals.

Probably this is also connected to the known issue: Export-to-data disabled for a visual with visual calculation

  • This has never worked, as both R and Python visuals render images on the canvas. They do not expose their data frames. There's nothing to export.

Thank you Ibendlin for your prompt answer.

You are probably right, but I would swear that a few months ago this was possible.

The R Visual object use a dataframe with all the information required to create the necessary charts or graphs, and it was this dataframe that I believe it was exported.

I'd be curious to see if that has worked.  Maybe the export covered the "incoming"  data frame, ie what you put into the Values area?

Now you have mentioned that this has never worked I'm no longer 100% certain but few members of my reports audience insisted to me that this was possible a few months ago. They could export the incoming data
In fact when using PowerBI Desktop this export data functionality is still working.

    Hi jeal,

We thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum with your query.

The Export Data option is generally unavailable for visuals created using R Scripts or Python. This limitation arises from the manner in which these visuals process data and their integration within the reporting platform. In scenarios involving visual calculations or custom scripts, Export Data functionality is often restricted to ensure compliance with data governance and integrity standards.

As suggested by lbendlin , we request you to raise a support ticket by following the link provided below:
